RAIN RAIN GO AWAY & TAKE THE TORNADOS WITH YA!

 

I was almost swept away the other day as I was driving to Cottage Groveto show homes. The sirens were going off and my Sean Hannity was interrupted on the radio with the emergency broadcast buzzing with a computer generated voice alerting me of the urgent situation. A tornado had touched down in Minneapolis and was heading my way. I did make it to Cottage Grove, but my client and I felt a little awkward hiding in the basement of a complete stranger's empty house, but at least we were safe when the tornado did hit the neighborhood just blocks away. We realtors are kind of like the Postal Service, neither rain, nor hail, nor sleet, nor snow...not even a feisty tornado, will keep us from our doing our job.

Happening in the Area This Week – Starting today in Lake Elmo, it's the Lake Elmo Regatta! Get out there and cheer 'em on. Don't park on the west side of the lake though, because people will be mad. Heads up for the rest of August, Dinner and Dance Cruise August 29^th, Vintage Car Show, Street Dance at the Stillwater VFW (580 Omaha Ave in Oak Park Heights) on Aug 29^th and Woodbury Daysare a comin'!

Happy Halloween!

 

Definitely some Paranormal Activity happening within my laptop this morning. I had the whole weekly email written, got up to get some coffee, came back…and :::POOF::: the email was gone. Not in my drafts, the sents, nor in the trash…just gone. Then the wind started to pick up & there were a bunch of ravens on my deck. Seriously. I thought it was my assistant Julie playing tricks on me, but she has been too caught up in her Survival Blog to have time.

 

I’m starting over....

 

Halloween Happening Here in the St. Croix Valley – Trick or Treating in downtown Stillwater tomorrow afternoon from noon – three. Stop by my friend Teresa Grim’s (real name) store, Doozie, and get a list of all the participating merchants. Also, if you’re looking to win $500 for that Halloween costume, head on over to the Lake Elmo Inn Event Center tomorrow evening for a party! I want to thank everyone who donated to my jail sentence to benefit MDA. I had the most online donations ($1,700) so I won a Wii! Thank you, thank you, to everyone who donated. I really appreciate it. I’m donating the Wii to the benefit for Stillwater Police Officer Brienne Heroux on Nov. 15^th. Save the date, more info to come (it’s at O’Garas and there are some great bands playing.)  

If you missed the Vine Valley Harvest Throwdown last Sunday night, don’t miss it next year! It was a great event, and surpassed our first year goals! The food was fabulous, auction items to die for, and my favorite, the wine was spectacular. Mark Hanson, from Marx in downtown Stillwater, was voted the Valley Favorite, by a slim margin, and went home with a Crystal Glass Stanley Cup, or something like that. Thank you to all the chefs from the area restaurants who participated. I’m still full.

I attended the Lake Elmo Rotary Dinner the other night at the Lake Elmo Inn Event Center, and I have to tell you, they put on quite a show over there. Fun was had by all, and somehow, after sipping perhaps a little bit too much vino, I ended up going home with a trip to the Kentucky Derby in the live auction. Woops.

We’ll Never Forget

Today is my friend Linda’s wedding anniversary, so I want to wish her a happy day, even though most of our thoughts are elsewhere. I’m still out selling and listing homes today, though the events of September 11^th, eight years ago, keep making their way into my thoughts. The details are still so crisp, and within minutes I am back sitting on my dad’s couch, staring at the television in disbelief as the Twin Towers were going down.

In the meantime, this week’s Snapshot photo is not of a house, ’cuz you can find all of my listings here, but of my husband, Phil, about 15 minutes ago. He’s just about ready to tee off at Mendakota Country Club for a “Tee It Up For the Troops” golf tournament. Festivals are happening everywhere this weekend, from Sturgis to Detroit Lakes to our own Huff 'n Puff Days right here in Lake Elmo. Let's hope the weather holds so all the bands can take the stage (poor Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fell off his at Sturgis this week), the motorcyclists can make it home safe and every softball game can be played. Goodbye July, Hello August...where did the summer go?

First Real Estate, then onto the double bonus information...I have fun shopping items for those looking for a little something to keep them toasty in this "global warming" summer. Gore Schmore is all I'm sayin'.

Congratulations to Jim Mattson, our latest new homeowner! He closed on his new house in Lakeland yesterday and couldn't be happier that his renting days are ovaaaaaah!

It was one of those great weather weeks, so I got myself some hot lookin' rain boots from DAV Rain Fashion (that can be worn in all weather, even winter with some thicker socks.) I told my husband they have been in my closet for two years and will be admitting myself to the 12-Step Program after I get just one more pair. For Jody, my shoe fetish BFF, I bought the Flirt Rain Boots....in solid black...they're sooo comfy. You can find the line on sale at a bunch of different websites, or where I got them in Walker, MN for $35.00.

Also, I met the designer of KickAssFashions for lunch this week, Kelly Schultz. I bought three super hot hats from her – hats you won't find in any stores yet. She's running her boutique online and get this...she's Kickin' A$$! If you're looking for a one of kind hat, at some kick butt prices, check out her store! (Note to Lisa, Teresa and the rest of my local boutique owner friends, call Kelly quickly.)

One more thing, I guess I'm going to jail. This is what happens when you drink too much and someone calls you to join their charity movement. "Sure!" I said as I sipped my Merlot. "That sounds fun!" Then they proceeded to tell me that they bring me to jail and I have to raise $1,600.00 or I don't get out. If it weren't a good cause, Muscular Dystrophy, I'd stay in jail just to bug Police Chief John Gannaway. Please donate here, even five dollars would be huge! Thank you.

Then, call me to buy a house. We're kickin' arse back at Karin Housley Headquarters, so give us a call – free pair of rubber boots for every buyer or seller. (I didn't say they'd be new.)

P.S. Julie's been a little quiet since she called the news media and asked them why they were focusing so much attention on the little beer summit at the White House this past week. She said nobody cares when she entertains professors with a Bud Light on her South Lawn. Then I saw her shipping a case of Leinenkugel to the President with a note that said something about having good taste.
